Alfred Wayne Giles

March 6, 1931 — May 11, 2026

Damon,Texas

Alfred Wayne Giles, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, at the age of 95 in Needville, Texas. Born on March 6, 1931, in Greeley, Kansas, Al spent his life enjoying simple things and cherishing time with family and friends.

For many years, Al worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company in El Paso, Texas, until his well-deserved retirement. Yet, his true legacy extends beyond his work achievements; it resides in the hearts of the many lives he touched with his kindness and gentle spirit.

Al's proudest accomplishment is his enduring love story with his high school sweetheart, Lorene. They were married at the young ages of 19 and 20 at St. John the Baptist Church in Greeley, Kansas, spending over 75 beautiful years together, hand-in-hand through the good times as well as the challenging times. They were truly blessed and took great care of each other surrounded by peace, loyalty and devotion that is indescribable.

Al was a great father that supported and protected his wife and children. He enjoyed square dancing with Lorene, and they eventually retired to a home on the Texas side of Lake Texoma where they were surrounded by nature. He was very easygoing and when we were feeling down his kind words were “keep your chin up, this will pass”. He set an example of being patient and not overreacting when faced with difficult times. The thought of God taking his 14 year old daughter Sandy to heaven always brought on tears and a loss of words, but his soul will rejoice as he joins her. He was one of the kindest men you could ever meet, and he showed his love through the little things every single day. He always made the time to attend his children’s “events” and even coached the city champions little league baseball team with Mike playing 2nd base and Steve as batboy. His face would light up when he had the chance to be with his grandkids and great grandkids. Their smiles back at him brought him great joy. Short hikes with him along the trails he maintained through the woods to the Lake Texoma shore was a simple pleasure enjoyed by all. Enhancing the beauty of God’s creation brought him pleasure and he managed to gather an impressive rock collection from his surrounding areas. His rock hounding skills have been passed on to his great grandson Jackson

As a devoted Catholic, Al was a faithful parishioner over the years at the parishes of St. Pius X in El Paso, Texas and St. Patrick in Denison, Texas. After moving to Damon, Texas he continued to practice his faith at St. John The Apostle Catholic Church in West Columbia, Texas.

He is survived by his children Patricia Diane Giles (the late Jim) of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Michael Wayne Giles and his wife Karen of Claremore, Oklahoma and Steven Paul Giles and his wife Rebecca of Damon, Texas; his grandchildren Summer Walker (Jason), Ryan Giles (Brandi), Nikki Logsdon (Matt), Jacob Giles (Amanda), and Jessica Ervin (Cole); and great-grandchildren Jack Andrew Walker, Layla Ann Walker, Charlotte Marie Logsdon, Tucker Wayne Logsdon, Oliver Roy Logsdon, Jackson Steven Giles, and Charles James Giles.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife Lorene, parents Alma (Martin) and Leland Giles, and his daughter Sandra Lee Giles.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Saturday, May 16th from 9 – 10:30 at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church located at 603 Mulcahy Ave., Damon, TX. Rosary will begin at 10:30 with his funeral service beginning at 11:00. Interment to follow at the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery. A meal will be provided afterwards at Margarita Jones restaurant located at 400 E Brazos Ave, West Columbia, TX.

As we celebrate his remarkable life, let us remember Al for his sense of humor and the cheer he bestowed upon everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy will live on through his family and friends, carrying forward the lessons of humility, stability, patience, laughter, and the joys found in the simplest of moments.
