Anna Kathryn Hay

Anna Kathryn Schmidt Hay died peacefully at K’s place in Angleton Texas on March 12, 2024 in the presence of loving family and staff at the age of 85. 

 Mrs. Hay is survived by her children, Gary and Rebecca Hay of Pearland, Texas, Kelly Hay and Sebastien Bonifield  of Fort Worth, Texas; her Grandchildren, Carl and June Hay, Kurt Hay, and Jade and Deja Saniei-Hay; her siblings, Dickie and Debra Schmidt, of Mason, Texas, and Janet Schmidt of Mason, Texas; her In-Laws Kenneth and Jeryl Lynn Hay, of West Columbia, Texas, and Don and Sheran Hay of Hearne, Texas, Sondra Stargel, of Amarillo, Texas, and her many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by loving husband Wayne Hay after 57 years of marriage; son, Steven Frederick Hay; her parents, Carl (Pop) and Margret Schmidt; stepmother, Judy Schmidt, brother, Freddie Schmidt; sister in law, Audentha Hay; and daughter in law, Kathy Hay. 

 Anna Schmidt Hay was born on April 16, 1938 in Mason, Texas to Carl and Margret Fisk Schmidt. Anna was baptized, confirmed and married in St Paul Lutheran Church of Mason, Texas and graduated from Mason High School. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in May 1958 with a Bachelor of Science and a major in Medical Microbiology and Bacteriology. During the time Anna lived in Austin, she worked at the Texas Health Department. Anna married her college sweetheart, Wayne Melvin Hay, on April 25, 1959. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to West Columbia where Anna accepted a teaching position for the Columbia-Brazoria Independent School District. After retiring from CBISD, Anna worked many more years at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School in Clute, Texas.

 The couple welcomed 3 children into their home, Gary Wayne, Steven Frederick, and Kelly Kathryn. Her children remember her as a supportive and loving mother who encouraged and supported them in their endeavors. 

 Anna was faithful to her Lord and Savior and read her Bible and devotions daily. She was very active in the Columbia Methodist Church in West Columbia and worked tirelessly to serve others. She was a founding member of the Monday Morning Methodists and served as a teacher for both Sunday School and Bible School. She was committed to working with the Feed My Lambs Ministry and providing lunches for children during the summer. Anna was also active in the community and served as President of the First Capital Study Club. In July 2014, Anna won the Unsung Hero Award for her service to Brazoria County.

 Visitation for Anna Kathryn Schmidt Hay will be on Thursday, March 14, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at C.T. Baker  Funeral Home 634 S. Columbia Dr. West Columbia. A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 10:00 am on Friday, March 15, at Columbia Methodist Church in West Columbia with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Anna Hay. Graveside services will be held at the Suggs Cemetery in Hearne, Texas.

 Ann lived a humble life and blessed the lives of many. She will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank everyone in the community for their prayers and loving support.
