Anne Eileen Coughlin

January 3, 1925 ~ September 14, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anne Eileen Coughlin, a loving wife, mom, and mom mom. Anne, also known as Arma to her closest family, left this world peacefully at her home in Little River, SC. She was born on January 3, 1925, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Anna Carmella Montague and David Eugene Fenerty.

Anne had a heart overflowing with love and a spirit that touched everyone she encountered. She adored spending time with children and had a magical way of calming any baby she held. Her greatest source of joy was her family, whom she cherished immensely.

Growing up in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia, Anne attended grade school at Nativity B.V.M., where she laid the foundation for a life dedicated to love and care. After completing her education, Anne began a journey that would shape her into the remarkable woman we remember today.

Throughout her life, Anne held various roles, but none were as rewarding to her as being a devoted wife and mother. She was married to the love of her life, Vincent D. Coughlin, on January 18, 1947 at Nativity B.V.M. Church and spent 34 years together until his death on November 9, 1981. Together they built a beautiful family and shared countless memories throughout their journey together.

One particular memory that stands out is from Christmas of 1966. Despite a blizzard raging outside on Christmas Eve, Anne fearlessly took up a shovel and cleared the snow from their driveway. It was vital for Santa Claus to safely reach their house and place presents under the tree for her children to enjoy on Christmas morning. Many neighboring children were left chagrined upon hearing of Santa’s on time visit to the Coughlin household. This selfless act perfectly captures Anne's unwavering dedication to creating happiness for those she loved.

In addition to being an exceptional wife and mother, Anne never failed to brighten any room she entered with her infectious smile. She had an adventurous spirit that led her to indulge in hobbies and interests that brought her immense joy. Anne was an ardent fan of General Hospital and followed the Philadelphia Phillies, "Iggles," and Flyers with unwavering loyalty. She had a profound appreciation for hot tea, which she often referred to as "The nectar of the Gods."

Anne's proudest accomplishments in life were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her love for them knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She leaves behind a legacy that will forever be etched in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her.

Anne is survived by her children:  Nancy Wyatt (Ronald), James Coughlin, Denise Keys (the late Stephen), Kathleen McIntyre, Timothy Coughlin, Dennis Coughlin; her brother James Fenerty (the late Josephine), and son-in-law John Mervine. She will forever be remembered by her 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren who adored their 'Mom Mom'. The impact she made on their lives is immeasurable.

She was preceded in death by her children Vincent T. & his wife Judith Coughlin, Patrick Coughlin, Thomas Coughlin, Suzanne Mervine, her siblings: Francis Fenerty, Helen McDevitt, Joseph Fenerty, David Fenerty, Mary Malone.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Wednesday October 11th from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at St. Ephrem Catholic Church 5400 Hulmeville Rd. Bensalem, PA 19020 Her funeral mass will begin at 11:30 a.m.  Interment to follow at precisely 1:30 p.m. at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
