Annetta Strother

June 2, 1936 — August 5, 2017

On Saturday, August 5, 2017, Annetta Strimple Strother passed from this life to a more comfortable place. She was a resident of Brazoria County her whole life. She was born in Damon, grew up in West Columbia, and once married moved to Brazoria where she's lived ever since.

Annetta was preceded in death by her husband, Earby Strother and daughter, Edith S. Bell, both of Brazoria; her parents, Albert and Edna Strimple of West Columbia; and brother, Delbert Strimple of Houston.

Annetta is survived by her children, Lois S. Henry (Wesley) of Churchill, Raymond Strother (Mignon) of Cedar Lane, Sybil S. Sobotik (Larry) of Brazoria, and Jolene S. Harvey (Steve) of Pflugerville. Her grandchildren are Garrett Bell (Danyel) of Angleton; Tyson Bell (Cristina) of Katy; Meredith Cryer (Cody) of Huntsville; Jacob Sobotik (Casey) of Angleton; McKenzie Penrod (Dave) of Katy; Joseph Sobotik (Steph) of Brazoria; Jessica Harvey of Pflugerville. She also has eight great-grandchildren with another one due in September. Annetta also leaves behind her sister, Norma Smith of Danbury and brother, Bruce Strimple (Mary) of Deer Park.

Annetta retired from CBISD after 20+ years of service. At Brazoria Elementary, once her youngest child started school, she began her career in the food service department as a server in the food line at the cafeteria. She served meals to many students making lasting relationships with them and their families, teachers, and other workers at the school. Over time, she returned to college where she earned a certificate to enable her to progress to a management position.

Annetta was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Brazoria. She eagerly volunteered for many church activities including teaching Sunday school, stocking and distributing goods at the Food Pantry and assisting with various parts of the Passion Play. Church retreats were a favorite too. She especially enjoyed fellowship with her WMU group where she sewed dresses, quilted and went on outings. She remained an active member of the Church until she was no longer physically able to do so, but her desire to be a part of her Church family never changed.
Being a stay at home mother of a large family for many years, Annetta became an extremely talented cook. She also made the best sweet tea in town! Oftentimes the family would gather after church on Sundays for a delicious home cooked meal followed by an afternoon of stories around the table. Of course during football season, those afternoons were spent watching her favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. She was their #1 fan. Ms. Netta, the name she'd have her friends call her, was a fine seamstress and enjoyed quilting too. She even won an award at the Brazoria County Fair for a quilt that she'd made. Annetta's lifelong pastime was reading. Lots of times she'd read more than one book at a time. She loved to read and could always be found with a book in her hand.
