Barbara Usrey

On Friday, August 24, 2018, a very special lady in the true meaning of the word, left her earthly vessel. Barbara Usrey had been burdened with the terrible disease of Alzheimers/Dementia for 6 years. She finally received her well earned reward of her heavenly home.

During her life, Barbara graced her family and friends with a kind heart, beautiful smile and some awesome food. She was a remarkable cook and enjoyed creating delicious dishes to serve to her guests.

In her younger days, her family owned a restaurant. Barbara told us that her job was to "Priss around and greet the people."

She graduated High School from William Penn in Delaware. Soon after that, she came to visit her grandma in Texas. She went to work at a Savings and Loan Company in Freeport. She went to church and met George Usrey. They began dating. They went out every night after that for the next three months. That became a marriage that lasted for 58 years.

Quoted from her granddaughter Chelsey, "Granny and Papa have shown and taught us the meaning of what True Love is, by their life. The devotion of honest love in a marriage till death do you part."

When you would leave a visit from her home, it was with your tummy full and also a warm sense of love in the hug she sent you home with.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, James D. Poteet and Athalea Poteet; sister, Janice Anderson and grandson, Ethan Goodwin.

Barbara has left many here to continue living with her memory in our hearts. Her husband who devotedly loved and spoiled her with all his heart, George Usrey; daughter, Laura Usrey ; son, Robert Bruce Usrey and wife, Minnie; grandchildren, Nicki Bowie and husband, Ernie; Chelsey Wagner and husband, Shawn; Derick Rodriguez and wife, Rosey; Jerica Rodriguez and Erica Rodriguez; great grandchildren, Shelby Jean Bowie, Summer Harley and Ethan Goodwin, Jr.

Memorial services have been set for Friday, August 31, 2018 at 6:00 PM at Baker Funeral Home Chapel, 634 S. Columbia Drive, West Columbia, Texas 77486 (979) 345-3232
