05/14/1922 - 09/11/2026 It is with deep respect and love that we celebrate the remarkable life of Bertha Marie Hruby, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and cherished friend. Bertha was born on May 14, 1922, in Wallis, Texas, to the late Edward and Sophie Pisklak. She departed this life on September 11, 2026, at the age of 104, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, love, and devotion that will be forever cherished by all who knew her. Bertha was a dedicated homemaker, a role she embraced with grace and love. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with family, faith, and the simple joys she found in her daily routines. She married her first husband, Alfonso Vacek, on October 22, 1941, and after his passing, she found love again with Edmund Hruby, marrying him on November 26, 1953. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished family memories. A devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brazoria, Texas, for over 60 years, Bertha's faith was a cornerstone of her life. A charter member of the Catholic Daughters Court #2289 for over 50+ years, member of the Alter Society and Golden Age, and member of the KJZT #49 for over 75+ years. She found great joy in serving her community and worshiping with her church family. Bertha’s hands were rarely still, as she delighted in making kolaches, pear strudels, pies, cookies, and canning anything she could find that were as much a treat for the soul as they were for the palate. Her sewing and crocheting were not just hobbies but acts of love, creating beautiful pieces that her family will treasure for generations. Her love for bingo was extraordinary in that she never lost the winning faith. She was a devout fan of the Houston Astros and very rarely missed a game, unless it was on the east coast. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Sophie Pisklak, husband Edmund Hruby, and her beloved daughter, Gloria Hudgeons (Vacek), and son in law Jolly Hudgeons. Bertha is survived by her grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Donette, Randall (Deanna), and Jolene (Lucas) along with her great grandchildren; Nathan, Shelby, Hannah, Logan and Jordan; one great great grand child; Camden; foster daughter Evette (Elroy) and children Scotty and Taylor. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to shine brightly through them. A service to honor and celebrate Bertha's life will be held on September 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brazoria, Texas. Visitation will be September 17, 2026, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM with the rosary starting at 6:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in memory of Bertha's generous and compassionate spirit. Bertha Marie Hruby's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and faith. Her gentle spirit and unwavering kindness touched all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. May she rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love of those who went before her.
