Betty was the oldest of six children born to William K and Winnie K Sloan on December 27, 1924, in Kaufman County. At the young age of five, Betty professed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was an active member of Wild Peach Baptist Church for many years. Her faith never wavered even when times were tough, and she was ready for her home going to meet up with all her family again. Betty was a loving Christian and was loved by many.

She was united in holy matrimony to her high school sweetheart Julian Raymond Christian on May 24, 1941, at age 16. Even though she married young, and JR left for the service, she continued her education and graduated from Kaufman High School. Their union was blessed with five sons: David Andrew, Julian “Raymond,” Johnny William, Timothy Jack, and Danny Mack. Betty was an easy-going person and she had to be to raise five boys. In the late 1940s, Betty and JR relocated to Brazoria County for JR to work as a pipefitter for Dow. Eventually, they set up their family home in Wild Peach, where they raised their boys and were known to welcome any grandchild at any time. Betty attended many rodeos, livestock shows, and many other various activities that involved any of her sons. Betty and JR were married for almost 60 years until his death in 1999. Betty, fondly known as Granny by many, was never at a loss for company with her sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren coming over to visit and sometimes staying for longer periods if needed. Granny loved every moment of it as she lived for her family. She shared her strong Christian faith with her grandchildren as they have many fond church memories with their grandmother.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Julian “Raymond,” Johnny William “Bill,” Timothy “Tim,” and Danny “Dan”; seventeen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister-in-law Mary John Christian that was more like a sister to her and was one of her best friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, her son David, her great-grandson Justin, her parents, and her siblings Kelsey Sloan, Calvin Sloan, Jo Nell Smelker, Dorotha Lee Webb, and Martha Lou Garrett.

Pallbearers are David “Andy” Christian, Julian “Trey” Christian, Kyle Alexander, Kasy Alexander, Keith Alexander, and Joe Spillars.
