Betty Mccune

Betty J. McCune left us to go home to Jesus on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 in Humble, Texas.

Born in Palacios, TX to Maude Ridgeway and Lynn D. Gormey on September 20, 1931. She lived and was raised in Old Velasco, TX and went to school and graduated in Freeport, TX.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Maude E Ridgeway; her stepfather, Charlie C Ridgeway; her sister, Lisa Ann Ridgeway; and her brothers, Carl Gormey and Junior Gormey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe C McCune and her precious, first-born, Debra E. McCune. Her first-born grandson and granddaughter also preceded her in death.  What a joyous reunion it must have been when she stormed heaven's gates with all of them and Jesus waiting for her.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Kathy Durham; her son, Kenneth McCune (Erica); her grandchildren, Timothy Rhys McCune, Jessica Caitlin Durham, Chelsea Elizabeth-Nicole Durham, Jordan McCune (Haylie) Aaron McCune, and Colton McCune (Shelby); her nephews, James Gormey (Luxey), Rick Gormey, Dennis Gormey, and Ezra Douglas; her niece, Larenda Gormey Nicar; and her great-grandchildren, Jade McCune, Addison Hailey Harnden, Lia McCune, Romy Joy McCune, and Emma Grace McCune.

Mom answered to many things. A dynamic woman, she held important positions in her life. In school, she graduated ahead of her class; she was a smart and wise woman. Betty held positions as phone operator, processor at the Lake Jackson bank, and a much loved Sunday school teacher. She also was a monitor for the school buses for the special needs children, whom she loved and cared for. She was always a champion for the less fortunate. As a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she cared deeply for all her family and friends. She was the only person I've known to have kept every promise that she made.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 7, 2020 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at C. T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home in West Columbia.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, November 9, 2020 also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Restwood Memorial Park in Clute.
