Betty Sue Douthard Blackmon, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and active member of the community, passed away on September 11, 2025 at the age of 90. Born on September 13, 1934 in Houston, Texas to the late Sedelle Stockman Douthard and Leroyce Douthard, Betty along with her older sister, Jean, spent their formative years in West Columbia, where Betty received her education and graduated from high school in 1952. After marrying her beloved husband Willis Blackmon, they relocated to Pennsylvania where Willis was stationed in the Air Force, before returning to West Columbia to raise and nurture their three daughters, Debbie, Brenda, and Lou. Betty's career journey was diverse, encompassing roles such as telephone switchboard operator, bank teller, and culminating in a fulfilling role as administrative tech at Varner-Hogg park with Texas Parks and Wildlife, from which she retired around 2004. Post-retirement, Betty's passion for history shone through as she generously volunteered her time with various organizations such as The Varner-Hogg volunteers, First Capital Historical Foundation, The Ammon Underwood House, Austin Town and the Columbia Historical Museum, serving as a valued board member for some of these institutions. Beyond her formal commitments, Betty cherished the bonds she shared with her dear friends in groups like "the Buzzards," where they frequented different restaurants weekly, and in her dominoes and card game gatherings. Betty Sue’s warmth and sociable nature made her a beloved figure in her community, always eager for a meal out or a leisurely drive through town or the countryside. Throughout the years she loved her pets and most recently her dog, Reesie. Betty found joy in watching Jeopardy, often pitting herself against the contestants in spirited competition. She leaves behind her fond memories and is survived by her daughters Brenda Blackmon and Lou Adkins, as well as cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren; Garrett, Nolan (Kassandra) and the late Shyanne, great granddaughters Paitin and Kameryn. She also had two step children, Beth and Vincent and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Willis, sister Jean, daughter Debbie, and granddaughter Shyanne. Betty Douthard Blackmon's legacy of kindness, community commitment, and love for her family will forever endure in the hearts of those who knew and treasured her.
