Bettye Wilson

July 26, 1934 — September 3, 2015

Bettye Joyce Wilson of West Columbia went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 3, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She fought a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease for over 20 years. Bettye was born on July 26, 1934 in Refugio to Arthur and Martha Lee Martin. She was a longtime resident of West Columbia, graduating from Columbia High School as Salutatorian in the class of 52'. She was a member of Family Life Church and spent many years serving in the church as a greeter and giving to others. One of the highlights of her life was her trip to the holy land and being baptized in the Jordan River. Bettye was a strong prayer warrior and spent her life serving the Lord. She was loved and adored by many and will be greatly missed. Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Martha Lee Martin; her brother, James Martin and nephew, Jim Wolf. She is survived by her husband, James (Ed) Wilson of West Columbia; her son, James Gavin Jr. & wife, Sherilene of Lake Jackson; son, James (Jimmy) Wilson III of Angleton; daughter, Eddye Powell & husband, Jeff of Richwood; sister, Billye Bertram of West Columbia; grandchildren, Christopher Gavin, Lauren Gavin, Megan Powell, Jared Powell, James (Jamie) Wilson IV,David Clinton Jr.,Denise Clinton, Travis Clinton, Tara Clinton, & Christopher Clinton; great grandchildren, Tristan Clinton and Alaina Clinton; nieces and nephews, Vicki & Russell Jowell, Dee Dee & Richard Honea, Michelle & Brent Brigman, Jamie Lee & Joshua Edwards. Memorial funeral services for Bettye will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015 at 10:00 am at Family Life Church 220 Lake Road in Lake Jackson with Pastor Robert Willis officiating. Burial will follow at Columbia Cemetery in West Columbia. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia from 6:00 p m until 8:00 pm. Serving as pallbearers are Jimmy Simunek, Steve Mann, Steve Anderson, Fred Lanier,Jamie Gibson, Milton Fenley. Honorary pallbearers are Christopher Gavin, Jared Powell, David Clinton Jr., Travis Clinton, Christopher Clinton & Jamie Wilson. The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks to A Med Hospice and the CC Unit nurses for their loving care of Bettye. They also would like in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Bettye's name to C E M S of West Columbia.
