Obituary

Billie Yuvonne Howard Whitley, 87, of West Columbia, Texas, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will miss her dearly.

Born on February 8, 1939, Billie was originally from Texhoma, Oklahoma, and made West Columbia her home for 49 years. She shared 63 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Fred B. Whitley, Jr., building a life and a family together that grew through the years and generations.

Billie was a nurse for many years, caring for others with the same heart and compassion she brought to her family and friends. She loved camping, spending time outdoors, and most of all, enjoying the beautiful little piece of the world she created at home that she lovingly called her “park.”

If you were lucky enough to visit Billie’s home, there was one rule you learned quickly: the shoes came off at the front door. Billie took great pride in keeping her home warm and welcoming, but she certainly didn’t want to spend all of her time vacuuming! Behind that one little rule was a home where everyone was welcome. Billie had a way of making people feel like they belonged, and once you were welcomed into her life, you were family. Her home was a place where people gathered, memories were made, and love was freely given. It was simply one of the many things that made her, her.

She also had a lifelong love for Elvis Presley, and his music was never far from her heart.

Billie had a strong and unwavering faith in God. Her faith was an important part of her life and gave her comfort, strength, and peace through the years.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Fred B. Whitley, Jr.; her children, Butch and Candine Stumpner, Glenn and Rebel Stumpner, Judy and Johnny Pursley, Jim and Sharon Stumpner, Patricia and Troy “Cody” Broadway, Michelle and Jack Green, Deonna Whitley, and Amber Whitley; 19 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews

Billie was preceded in death by her parents, Wilton Roscoe Howard and Elizabeth Angeline Rhoden Howard; her sister and brother-in-law, Betty Lou “DoDo” and Victor Randell; her brother, John Richard Howard; and many beloved aunts and uncles.

Billie leaves behind a family that is larger than the names on a family tree. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for the peace and joy she found in life.

A vistitation will be held at C.T Baker & Sons Funeral Home, 634 S Columbia Dr, West Columbia, TX, Thursday, October 8th from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
