Brenda Biever

December 31, 1949 — December 14, 2018

Brenda Jo Biever, 68, of West Columbia passed into the arms of Jesus surrounded by her loving family on Friday, December 14, 2018. Brenda was born on December 31, 1949 to Otha Alvie and Nettie June Brown.

A Celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Columbia United Methodist Church in West Columbia at 2:00 pm with Pastor Paul Kethley officiating.

Brenda first started playing the organ and piano in the Methodist Church at the age of 14, which began a lifetime of musical dedication to the church. She went on from high school to Wharton County Junior College where she met her husband, Wally while they were playing the lead roles in the musical Lil' Abner. She then went on to graduate Cum Laude from Sam Houston State University with a degree in education and a minor in music. Brenda was the queen of the 1969 Cotton Bowl Parade having won the Miss Cotton of Texas pageant the prior year. Her self-arranged and rousing rendition of "Ol Cotton Fields Downhome" wowed the judges and the audience alike.

In addition to a passion for music, Brenda was also a dedicated educator in the Texas school system for almost four decades. She and Wally married in 1972 and had children Amanda, in 1979, and Adam in 1985.

The loss of her beloved son inspired her to accept the position of Director of Music at Columbia United Methodist Church. She held that position for three decades, and followed God's lead in the writing of the annual Christmas and Easter cantatas.
One of Brenda's fondest memories was the Christmas miracle snow on Christmas Eve of 2004.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Wally Biever, daughter, Amanda Biever Levonius & husband, Austin; granddaughter, Hazel Jo Levonius; mother, June Pickett; brother, Steve Brown & wife, Lisa; sister, Becky Patrick & husband, Zack; 2 nieces and 3 nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Otha Alvie Brown; stepfather, Tom Pickett and her son, Adam Christopher Biever.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Metavivor.org. for stage IV breast cancer research or to the Columbia United Methodist Church.
