Charles Wayne Morris, 82, of Sargent, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Matagorda Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bay City, Texas. Charles was born August 17, 1939, in Wharton, Texas to Electra Juanita (Keener) and Odell Morris.
Growing up at the Morris’ home in Sweeny was the place to be. Shari and Mike’s friends were always welcome. He always made sure the pool was clean, cars were filled up and the four wheelers were ready to go.
Charles retired from Phillips 66 in 1999. He enjoyed working there and he loved his coworkers. In his retirement, he enjoyed fishing with friends, playing pool, walking the beach with his dogs Starla and Shorty, and watching his grandchildren Lauren and Gage play sports.
To some he was known as Cheap Charlie, he always had a used vehicle he was trying to sale you. To others he was known as Brando due to his good looks, especially in his high school days.
In the early 1980’s, Wayne built Morris Tire, which of course was a Phillips 66 gas Station. This was the town’s hangout spot. It was also the place to go when kids needed new tires because they knew he was generous and would want to help. This is where his giving really took root. He had a big heart and was always wanting to help anyone who needed it.
On Wayne’s last good day in the hospital with Shari, he was commenting about the food they kept bringing him. He didn’t want it and made a remark about how they should instead be giving it to all the starving children in the world. This summed up Wayne Morris perfectly. He was a generous man who always put others before himself.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Odell and Electra Morris, son Michael Wayne Morris, sister Ginger Morris, brother Marshall Morris, and wife Linda Morris.
Charles is survived by his daughter Shari Morris; granddaughter Lauren Dannelley, and grandson Gage Dannelley.
