Charles E Woodrow, born September 23rd, 1939, passed away surrounded by family and loved ones on April 16th, 2024, in Angleton, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Bernice Woodrow, his brother, David and wife Sarah, and cousins, Sandra Gilstrap and Ann Herron, along with many nieces and nephews. Charles's children: Julie Polk, Melanie Adams (Bryan), Charlene Walden (Robert) and Gary Woodrow (Gina), along with their children and grandchildren. Charles’s stepchildren: P.T. Brunner (Lisa) and Cindy Warren, along with their children and grandchildren.  

 

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Benny Woodrow, Estelle Young Woodrow, and his wonderful aunt, Ginger Caldwell.

 

Charles was born in Winters, Texas and graduated high school in Abilene. After high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and received an honorable discharge. 

After his military service, he met his first wife, Nancy Woodrow and moved to Sweeny, where they raised their 4 children. Charles served briefly with the Sweeny police department before starting his career at Phillips Petroleum. He served in the Sweeny Volunteer fire department and moved up through the ranks to Chief, as well as fire marshal, serving Sweeny and the surrounding areas.

 

He was a member of the local Masonic Lodge for many years, achieving master status. He enjoyed serving in various capacities in the community. He enjoyed golf, traveling the world, reading, and working cryptograms.

 

He married Bernice on May 6th, 1994. Both worked and retired from Phillips Petroleum. He was known at Phillips as (The Sheriff) or just (Sheriff).

He enjoyed his retirement years with Bernice traveling, and keeping busy around the farm. Papa Charles, we will miss you.

A memorial service will be held at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia on May 4th, 2024. Visitation will be at 9:30 am. Memorial Services begin at 10 am.

 

Following the service, there will be a gathering at the VFW hall, located by Christian's corner. Lunch will be provided for family and friends.
