Curtis Alfred Voncannon, Jr. of West Columbia, Texas, passed away Monday, July 19, 2021 at his home. Curtis was born on August 7, 1940 to Geraldine and Curtis Voncannon of Brazoria, Texas. After graduating from East Chambers High School in Winnie, Texas, Curtis joined the United States Navy and was stationed in Londonderry, Ireland. He earned the rank of Radioman Second Class and was responsible for transmitting and receiving radio communications.
After his Honorable Discharge, Curtis had the opportunity to work internationally as well as state side for companies such as Aramco in Saudi Arabia, Esso Eastern in Malaysia and Exxon in Wyoming. After retiring, Curtis contracted his expertise and traveled throughout various states. He eventually retired permanently to West Columbia, Texas.
Curtis was a talented sportsman. He earned bragging rights when competing in football, golf, poker, hunting and fishing. He was an avid gun owner and loved to buy, sell, and/or trade firearms. Curtis and his brother Larry enjoyed gun shopping and were always in search for the ultimate find. Curtis shared his love of firearms with his grandchildren. He enjoyed teaching them gun safety and taking them to the firing range to practice.
Curtis is survived by his two sons Michael Voncannon and wife Joan, of West Columbia, Texas and Scott Voncannon and wife Marla, of Aliso Viejo, California; daughter Susan Allen and husband Joseph, of Sugar Land, Texas; grandchildren Katherine Voncannon and fiance Armando Flores, of Buda, Texas, Hayden Voncannon and Regan Voncannon, of Aliso Viejo, California and Taylor Allen,of Sugar Land, Texas; sister Cheryl Brigance, of Brazoria, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents Geraldine and Curtis Voncannon, brother Larry Voncannon and granddaughter Julianne Allen.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 6, 2021, at Brazoria Cemetery, 113 Tennis Street, Brazoria, Texas 77422, with military honors.
