David Stuckey

September 21, 1930 — November 2, 2020

Brazoria

David Eugene (Gene) Stuckey, age 90, went to his heavenly home on Monday, November 2, 2020, surrounded by family in Dripping Springs, Texas.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Eleanor Strother Stuckey and his parents, John Roy Stuckey and Marce Margaret Landers.

Gene was born in Iola, Texas in a small frame house on his grandfather’s farm.  He graduated from Iola High School and attended Texas A&M University until his father’s illness called him home to help support their family.  Gene entered the Air Force in January 1951 during the Korean Conflict, being stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.  After his honorable discharge, Gene was employed at Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas for 33 years, retiring in 1982. Not one to remain idle, he began his second career as a part-time postman for the US Postal Service in Brazoria and delivered mail for 15 years.

Gene married his loving wife of 58 years, Eleanor Strother, in 1951 and they built their home in Wild Peach in 1957 where they raised their five children.  A devoted husband, he wrote of Eleanor regarding the time of their first date, “I never stopped loving her; from that time until this day. Words cannot express how much I loved her.”

Gene loved the Lord and lived his life as an example of Christ’s love and servitude.  He was a longtime member and Deacon at Wild Peach Baptist Church where he held various leadership roles, including worship leader and Sunday School teacher.  Late in life, he was a founding member of Grace Baptist Church in Wild Peach.  One of his greatest joys was worshipping the Lord through music; encouraging his children to do the same.  He and Eleanor made honoring God their number one priority, creating a home of joy and peace.  Always willing to help his family and neighbor, it was not uncommon for him to put in a full day’s work at Dow, return home for an evening meal, then head over to a neighbor’s house to help repair an automobile, air conditioner, or heater.  He loved people and was quite a storyteller, often recounting his days as a young boy growing up on the farm in Iola.  Those who knew him found him kind, compassionate, a man of his word and an eternal optimist.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Janis (Jerrold) Summerlin of Boerne, Texas; daughter, Glynis (Jerry) Ramsey of Carrollton, Texas; son, Mark Stuckey (Pam) of Brazoria, Texas; daughter, Iris (John) Murray of Hoschton, Georgia; and daughter, Amanda (Mark) Nolen of Dripping Springs, Texas; granddaughters, Bethany (Armond) Davis, Brittany (Bruce) Correll, Brooke (Bobby) Poehl, Amy (Mark) Bilecki, Elise Murray, Eden Murray, and Kate Nolen; grandsons, Benjamin Stuckey, Jordan Nolen, and John Nolen; and great-grandchildren, Brileigh and Koen Davis, Rissa and Kaeden Pettigrew, Kaeden Frankum, Kynnadi and Kolton Correll, Gavin and McKenna Poehl, and Arya and Reed Bilecki.  In addition, he is survived by his sister, Elna Rae McConathy of Edna, Texas and many nieces and nephews whom he also loved.
