Deborah “Debby” Muriel Thompson

January 4, 1950 – October 7, 2025

Deborah “Debby” Muriel Thompson, born on January 4, 1950, in Borger, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, in Sweeny, Texas. Debby dedicated many years to working in retail at Cowpokes in West Columbia, Texas—a career that reflected her deep appreciation for the culture and lifestyle she loved.

A passionate animal lover, Debby was known for her kindness and compassionate spirit. She devoted herself to caring for numerous stray dogs throughout her life, embodying a generous heart that was central to who she was.

In her younger years, Debby enjoyed spending time with her family, watching her sons play baseball, boating and skiing on the river, and camping at Lake Somerville. She found great joy in riding horses and participating in barrel racing—pursuits that brought her much happiness. Above all, her proudest achievements were rooted in her family. Later in life, she rarely missed a chance to cheer on her grandchildren at their various sporting events, exemplifying her role as a devoted mother and grandmother.

Debby is survived by her son, Scott Laird, and his wife, Stephanie, of Spring, Texas; her beloved grandchildren, Kylie Laird of Dallas, Texas; Jade Winkler and her husband, Joey, of Corinth, Texas; Sloan Laird of Spring, Texas; Trentyn Nettles of Angleton, Texas; and Slade Nettles of Lake Jackson, Texas; as well as her brother, Steven Wright, and his wife, Kim, of Sweeny, Texas and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 25 years, Benny Thompson; her parents, Mildred (née Gilbert) and Jimmy Wright; her son, Kevin Nettles; and her sister, Terry Sweening.

A memorial service in honor of Debby will be held on November 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Shady Acres, located at 18034 County Rd 463, Brazoria, TX 77422. The community is warmly invited to celebrate her life and remember the warmth and kindness she shared with all.
