Donald Wilson

April 15, 1933 — January 18, 2021

Donald Earl Wilson, 87, of Brazoria, Texas passed from this life on, Monday, January 18, 2021 in Angleton, Texas. He was born on April 15, 1933 in West Columbia, Texas to Martin and Pearl Wilson. Donald attend and graduated high school West Columbia, Texas. He also attended Wharton County Junior College.

On October 23, 1953, Donald married the love of his life, Betty Hanson. On February 2, 1954 he was drafted into the Army where he was stationed in El Paso, Texas. After his service in the Army, he worked a short time at the Jefferson Lake sulfur company outside of Brazoria. This is where he lost the use of his right eye, but he never let that keep him down. He went to barber school in Houston, Texas and started cutting hair there in Brazoria. In the 70s when boys let their hair grow long, there was not much need for a good barber, so he joined Local 211 Pipe Fitters Union and made a good living for his family. He finally retired after helping build the nuclear power plant in Wadsworth, Texas.

Donald served as a member of the Brazoria volunteer fire department for many years. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 561 for over 35 years. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brazoria. On April 16, 1970 he became a Master Mason of Brazoria Masonic Lodge #327. In 1975-1976 he served as the Worshipful Master of the lodge. After serving as Worshipful Master he served as treasurer of the lodge for over 30 years.  In 2012-2013 he served as District Deputy of district 31-C, of the most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Texas. He received his 50- year service award on 8/12/2020. He enjoyed traveling to other lodges and meeting with other masons.

Mr. Wilson loved to hunt. He loved going to all his kids and grandkids sporting events. He did not miss very many. After he retired, he could be seen every morning at the donut shop in Brazoria and would greet everyone that came through the door. In the afternoons he would meet with friends for coffee in Diamond S and they could solve all the problems of the world.

He is preceded in death by his father, Martin V. Wilson; mother, Littlefield Wilson; wife, Betty Marie Hanson Wilson; daughter, Alice Marie Wilson; sisters, Myrtle McElveen, Eddie Mae Minshew, and Sylvia Norman; and brother, Martin (Speck) Wilson.
