Donice Sharon Gibson
SWEENY – Donice Sharon Gibson, a lifelong resident of Sweeny, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at the age of 80. She was born on March 12, 1946, and spent her life devoted to serving others through countless acts of kindness, compassion, and generosity.
Donice had a special place in her heart for widows, widowers, and veterans. Her mission of spreading joy began in 1983 after her mother remarked that she never received anything in the mail except bills and sales flyers. Inspired by those words, Donice began sending cards to widows, widowers, and veterans, offering encouragement, friendship, and a reminder that they were remembered and cared for.
Her generosity became a cherished Christmas tradition. For many years, Donice baked 90 buttermilk pound cakes each holiday season and personally distributed them to widows and widowers throughout the community. In later years, she continued the tradition by preparing 17 double batches of homemade divinity, sharing sweet treats and even sweeter kindness with those she loved to serve.
Donice was truly one of a kind. She possessed a gentle spirit, a caring heart, and an unwavering desire to help others. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making people feel valued and loved. Her warm smile, thoughtful gestures, and selfless nature touched countless lives and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Above all, Donice will be remembered for her kindness. She brought smiles to faces, comfort to hearts, and joy to every room she entered. Her legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
Though she will be deeply missed, the countless lives she brightened stand as a testament to a life beautifully lived and generously shared.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Florence Hall; sister, Cindy Patterson, and brother, Kenny Hall.
Survivors include her loving husband of 52 years, Jamie Gibson; bunches and bunches of nieces and nephews and thousands of friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Baker's Funeral Home, with Pastor Joshua McDonald officiating. Interment will be at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest.
Pallbearers will be Cory Erickson, Bryson Lofgren, Jayden Issertell, Jeremy Mann, and Carl Lee Simple. Honorary bearers will be Clint Mann and Cody Forsman.
