Doris Chafin

April 8, 1934 — February 22, 2022

Brazoria

Doris Virginia Chafin, 87, of Brazoria peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at 2:36 PM. She was born to Nolan H. and Mary Lee Plunk on April 8, 1934, in Waukegan, Texas.

Doris was a secretary for Swift Packing Company when she met the love of her life, Jim Bob Chafin. They were soon married and started their family. She loved her children and grandchildren so much that she shopped for Christmas all year long so that everyone had the perfect gift plus socks and underwear that were usually too big or small creating a trading frenzy to compete with Wallstreet.

Doris was an example of a Proverbs 31 woman who loved God with her whole heart. She read and studied her Bible every day, and often read through the entire Bible multiple times a year. Doris was a Missionettes Sponsor for many, many years at Brazoria First Assembly and taught hundreds of young women about Jesus. She prayed over her children and grandchildren constantly believing that each one would know Jesus as their Savior so she could spend eternity with them in heaven.

Doris loved to learn and valued education. She was always up for a challenge. She solved her crosswords and other puzzles in pen and enrolled in various courses at Brazosport College to learn as much as she could. When one of her grandchildren was struggling in college math, she enrolled in the class as well to learn with him and help him study. She also enjoyed painting and writing.

Doris is preceded in death by her loving husband Jim Bob Chafin, her daughter Sharon Chafin Carlson and grandson Wesley Chafin, sister Falvey Lee and brother James Pickering.

Left to cherish her memories are her surviving children, Jimmy Chafin (wife Sherry) of West Columbia, Cynthia Rodriguez (husband Julio Rodriguez) of Brazoria and Phillip Chafin of Brazoria; sisters Udell Hoskins and Peggy Robison . She also leaves behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved her dearly but are happy she’s received her heavenly body and is now made whole in Jesus Christ.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday morning prior to the services.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2022, in the Chapel of C.T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home in West Columbia, Texas. Interment will follow in Brazoria Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be J.J., Josh, Keith, Cody, Ethan, and Sam.
