Dwayne Rucker

Dwayne Lyle Rucker was a cherished husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He suddenly returned to the hands of God on August 11, 2021, at age 78.

He was born to William Burl Rucker Jr. and Alice Loyd Rucker on January 30, 1943, in Monahans, TX. Dwayne was raised in Rising Star, TX where he attended Rising Star High School and participated in Football and Track. Directly after his high school graduation, he followed in his father’s footsteps to enroll in the army and was stationed at Fort Polk, LA where he met his wife, Joyce Rucker. Together, they had their 2 children: Roxie and Rhonda Rucker. He worked at Firestone before finishing up his career and retiring from Dow Chemical after 21 years of service.

Dwayne loved spending his time hunting and fishing any chance he got, bringing along loved ones to teach his passion. Along with his joy in gardening and tinkering, Dwayne helped out the community in any way he could from participating in booths at the local fair to lending a hand whenever he could to the Church. Generous is not a strong enough word to describe his devotion to helping others, nor is caring enough to define the love he had for his family.

He is preceded in death by father; William Rucker, mother; Alice Rucker, brother; William (Billy) Rucker, sister; Deloris Turner, and nephew; Billy Dwayne Turner.

He is survived by daughters Roxie Gurley, Rhonda Shepard and husband, Ben; grandchildren; MeKayla (Kk) Gurley, Ashten Gurley, Tyler Shepard, and Timmie Shepard; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones to the viewing on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, from 5-7pm at C.T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home in West Columbia, TX.  Funeral Service will be 2:30 pm on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at Brazoria First Assembly of God located in Brazoria, TX. Interment will follow in Sweeny Cemetery.
