Edgar L. Allman

September 25, 1936 — June 23, 2023

Edgar Lynn Allman, Jr. was known to friends and family as Lynn.  He grew up in Austin and graduated from the University of Texas with a BBA in Industrial Management in 1961.  He married his wife Joy in 1960.  After graduation, they moved to Seattle to work for Boeing.  Then he moved to Los Angeles and then to Houston with North American Aviation.  He went back to Boeing and moved to New Orleans and then to Houston until the moon landing.  His name is in the Smithsonian Institute for his work on the moon landing.

While at the University of Texas, he was active as a spelunker, visiting caves all over south Texas and Mexico.  His most memorable trips included exploring the Devils Sinkhole and the Caverns of Sonoma (which was later commercialized).  He enjoyed the friendship of fellow spelunkers and attended several reunions and numerous visits with these friends.

After returning to Texas, Lynn showed horses in the Reining, and the Working Cow Horse classes.  He participated in shows all over Texas and Oklahoma.  He showed in a number of American Quarter Horse World Select Shows, and finished Reserve Champion in both events in 2004.  He and Joy enjoyed the friends met on the show trips and the many good horses they worked with.

After his aerospace career, Lynn worked for Amoco Chemical and later as a real estate broker and appraiser in Brazoria County.  Lynn enjoyed country-western dancing and playing 42 dominos with his friends here in Brazoria County.

Lynn and Joy were married for 62 years until her passing.  They raised two sons, Bernie and Peter, and one daughter, Suzanne; and are proud of their six grandchildren:  Victoria, Nathan, Hannah, Adam, Kate and David.

Lynn battled his cancer for the past ten years, and he was not happy to lose this final battle.  But he faced it with a strong sense of humor and a stronger faith in God.  He was loved and will be missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday, June 29th from 10-11am at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 300 Willow Dr., Lake Jackson, Texas.  Funeral service begins at 11am.  Interment to follow at Brazoria Cemetery.
