Edward Pisklak

August 21, 1917 — February 9, 2018

After a long and storied life of 100-1/2 years, Edward V. Pisklak, of Brazoria, TX passed away peacefully on Friday, the 9th of February, 2018, at his residence.

Edward, the third of 9 children, was born the 21st of August, 1917, in Wallis, TX to Czechoslovakian parents, Edward and Sophie Pisklak.

He married Annie Hruby Pisklak on the 17th of November, 1941, in Needville, TX. They shared 69-1/2 years of marriage until her death in 2011. Edward and Annie moved from the farm for Edward's job at the new Dow Chemical Company, settling in the city of Oyster Creek, then on to Velasco, where they raised their 4 children, and lastly Brazoria, where it's been home since 1966.

Edward was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He proudly served his Country as a member of Company M, 23rd Infantry in the U.S. Army from 1937-1940, Ft. Sam in San Antonio, TX. He could still rattle off his dog tag ID number, even after all these years. Edward was a devoted family man, staunch southern Democrat (voting by mail the last election), expert straight domino player, loved to BBQ, and was THE most avid baseball fan, especially of the Houston Astros, living long enough to see his team win the 2017 World Series. In his early years, he played ball in the Army, and for the Lake Jackson Gators while working for Dow Chemical. In later years, Edward would make yearly trips to the Astros spring training in Kissimmee, Florida with his sons and grandsons. His baseball highlight was watching Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig play ball at Buff Stadium in the 1930's. Edward was also an experienced lifetime hunter and told stories of his hound dog, Big Boy, purchased for $50 and was shipped by freight from Ada, Oklahoma to the Velasco Depot Station. Edward passed along his hunting passion and skills to his sons and grandsons. For many years Edward enjoyed a deer lease close to home on Hwy. 332 near the former Riverside Country Club.

Edward was a man of great faith and member of Brazoria St. Joseph's on-the-Brazos Catholic Church, Men's Club, Golden Age Club, 64-yr member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as 4th Degree Sir Knight for 32 years. Many remember Edward as an accomplished accordion player. He carried his accordion to all family functions, reunions, church bazaars, and nursing homes providing much enjoyed polka and waltz entertainment, all the while "tapping his foot to the beat". Having good work ethic and respected by all, Edward retired from the Dow Chemical Company Utilities Distribution Department in 1982, with 41+ years of service. Edward took pride, and worked tirelessly, in his huge garden and raised cows on his Brazoria acres. He immensely enjoyed being surrounded by family.

Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Annie; parents; stepmother, Emilie Pisklak; brothers, Joe Pisklak and Gabriel Pisklak; and sister, Sister M. Celine Pisklak, step-grandson, Scott Griffin, and special niece, Gloria Hudgeons.

Left to cherish his memory are his children; Donald and Mary Pisklak, Ronald and Cisi Pisklak, Judy and Downey Griffin, Debby and Jesse Ayala; grandchildren, Stephen and Roseann Pisklak, Michelle Pisklak, Benjamin and Dr. Carrie Pisklak, Mike and Sarah Vandaveer, Dr. Paul and Dr. Stacey Pisklak, Justin and Elizabeth Griffin, Joshua Griffin and LaDinna Hillier, and Amy Ayala, as well as Jason Griffin, Allison Ayala Ryder, and Justin Ayala. Edward was further blessed with 22 great-grandchildren. Edward is also survived by sisters; Bertha Hruby, Martha Vacek, Wilma Bienek, Georgie Koehne, and Christine Demny, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. We will always treasure the memory of his flip cell phone calls on our every birthday, or just to keep us close.
