Elizabeth “Betty” Ann (Horky) Fowler passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family and entered into the presence of Jesus on Thursday, August 29, 2025 on her dear father’s birthday.
Betty Ann was the oldest child born to her parents, Louis & Elda Horky in Freeport, Texas on July 30, 1940. Betty Ann lived in Brazoria County all her life (Freeport, Angleton, Brazoria and Lake Jackson). She attended primary school through 8th Grade at St. Mary’s Catholic School, Freeport, Texas and graduated from Brazosport High School in 1958. Afterwards, she completed and graduated from The Massey School of Business, Houston, Texas in 1959. She worked as a Secretary at Dow Chemical Company Texas Operations in Freeport for 11 years.
She married the love of her life and soulmate Franklin Brice Fowler, Jr. at the St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church on March 25, 1961. They had been childhood sweethearts since 8th grade. Later, they moved to Angleton in 1970 to raise their children. Brice & Betty celebrated 64 years of marriage in 2025 and were blessed with four children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Over the years Betty Ann was actively involved in her community through various organizations such as her local church, Angleton Northside PTA, Brazoria County Right to Life, Pregnancy Help Center of Brazosport, and the American Family Association. Her hobbies and interests included spending time with family, collecting Angel figurines, completing daily crossword puzzles, learning family history and genealogy (she was always proud that she was a blend of both French and German/Czech descent), and traveling throughout the United States to visit family and friends, and her favorite trip of a lifetime was shared with her husband on a two-week Tour of the Holy Land to Israel in 2005. The experience of being inthe places where Jesus lived, taught, and sacrificed was beyond words. It deepened her understanding of the Bible in ways that any ordinary book or sermon could not.
Betty Ann’s grandchildren described their “Mimi” as spirited, attentive, and faithful. Their best memories were spending summers together, going to the beach and roasting hotdogs on the fire, and many fun summers at their river home water skiing and riding on an inner-tube behind their boat, and watching vintage movies with homemade popcorn. Her faith and relationship with Jesus were central to her life, and a source of immense strength and comfort for her. This is reflected in so many of their favorite memories with her. Beyond her faith, she found huge Joy in simple pleasures like talking about Jesus, enjoying Bluebell Ice cream and sipping mini ice cold bottles of Dr. Pepper and Cokes. Mimi had a love for ALL things floral and pink and sunsets.
Betty’s favorite Bible verses were:
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever Believes in
Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a Spirit of fear, but of Power and of Love and of a Sound Mind.
She is survived by her loving husband, Brice Fowler, Jr., beloved daughters Elaine (William) Valagura, Gina (Duane) Favorite, and beloved sons Brice (Deanna) Fowler III and Joshua (Vanessa) Fowler and also her dearest six grandchildren and dearest great-grandchild.
