Evelyn Berge

On Tuesday, December 8, 2020, Evelyn Christina Berge, of Brazoria, Texas, passed away at the age of 101. Evelyn was born May 28, 1919 in Waukon, Iowa to Ben and Stella Berger. She was the oldest of nine children. She taught in a one room schoolhouse before marrying Otto Berge on September 18, 1940. They had two children, Roxanne and Richard. In 1954, the family moved to Texas. While remaining active in church, she also became involved in Garden Clubs, Brazoria County Extension Club, and Brazoria County Quilting Guild. She also excelled at the following: sewing, refurbishing furniture, cross stitching, and canning. She received many awards and ribbons for these activities. Three great passions she had throughout her life were her family, playing cards, and cooking. Evelyn was always very hospitable and welcoming; she never met a stranger.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and six siblings.

She is survived by her two children, one brother, one sister, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, 11 nieces, and 21 nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, December 14th, 5-7pm at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia, TX. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 15th, 1pm at Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church, Jones Creek, TX.
