Evelyn Welsch

July 11, 1924 — October 5, 2018

Evelyn Eileen Welsch, 94, of Brazoria, passed from this life on Friday, October 5, 2018 in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was born on July 11, 1924 in Mason, Texas to William and Lillian (Donop) Splittgerber. Evelyn Welsch grew up in rural Mason, Texas. She attended Mason High School where she was a cheerleader. After high school, at the age of 16, she began teaching at a one-room school house. A couple of years later she enrolled at South West Texas College. At South West Texas she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and was a Galardian. It was there in the library that she met her husband Kenneth. She graduated with a degree in education.

Her teaching career spanned almost 40 years. She taught in Navarro ISD, Rankin ISD, Columbia-Brazoria ISD, and Angleton ISD, where she touched many lives. After retiring she devoted some of her time to volunteering. She loved to read at elementary schools and day cares. Evelyn enjoyed portraying Mrs. Claus at city Christmas events and Miss Ima Hogg at Varner Hogg Park.

Another love of hers was dancing, whether it was around the May Pole with her creative arts classes or just for fun. And if you gave Evelyn a little encouragement, she would put on her tap shoes and tap. Her exuberance for life showed as she smiled and danced.
Evelyn had a passion for art. She painted countless cards and pictures for those she cared about, and most likely she prayed for the person as she created it. Numerous organizations were dear to her: Varner Hogg volunteers, Feed My Lambs, Morning Methodist Cards, Military Moms, Retired Teachers, and Christian Senior Citizen Center, the women's Wesley class, to name a few. Evelyn had a very generous heart.

As for her family, she loved us all. In fact many were "Like daughters" or "Like sons" to her. We were all special to her.

Last but certainly not least, Evelyn loved, her God. She had a close relationship with God, and she was faithful to her devotionals and praying for others. She enjoyed her life of service to others in His name.
