Evia Sue Curtis Carr, of Sweeny, Texas, departed this world to be with her Lord and Savior on May 13th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 83.
Sue was born on November 30, 1941, in Bay City, Texas, to David and Evia Curtis.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She lived her life guided by her faith in Jesus Christ, sharing kindness, compassion, and strength with all who knew her.
At the age of 14, Sue met the love of her life, David Carr. They married in 1959 and enjoyed 66 happy years together as husband and wife. During their marriage, they moved to several locations with the United States Marine Corps before returning to Sweeny to raise their daughter, Crystal.
Sue worked at the Phillips 66 Old Ocean Unit, where she retired after a 44-year career. In retirement, she enjoyed reading, spending time on their land with her husband, having lunch and playing cards with her close friends, the Good-To-Go Girls, caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and traveling the world with her cousin.
She was also a cherished member of "The Lucky 13," a group of childhood friends who formed a lifelong bond in childhood and continue to meet annually. She served many organizations including the Sweeny Community Hospital Board and the Pink Ladies group. Though she lived a successful and fulfilling life, Sue always said her greatest accomplishment was her family, whom she loved and supported every day.
As a lifelong learner, Sue attended college alongside her daughter and granddaughter, always ready to share her wisdom and help edit papers when needed. She held the unique privilege of sharing her birthday with both her granddaughter and great-granddaughter, each of whom proudly carries her name.
Sue was a faithful member of Sweeny Church of Christ, where she actively served both the church and her community. Her unwavering devotion to God and her family was evident in every aspect of her life.
Sue was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, David Thomas and Evia Curtis; her sister, Mary Ann; her niece, Julie Denman; her son-in-law, Bill Womack; and her dear friends, fellow Good-To-Go Girls, Jo Ann Eargle and Vera Brooks.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, David Carr; her daughter, Crystal Womack; her grandson, Randy Womack, and wife, Melissa; her granddaughter, Laura-Sue Karl, and husband, Kevin; her great-grandchildren, Carrson Karl, Evia Womack, and Hubbell Womack; her cousin and travel companion, Pat Thomas, and husband, Gary; her dear friends, Beverly and Dianne of the Good-To-Go Girls and the remaining members of the Lucky 13.
A celebration of Sue’s life was held on May 14th, 2025 at the Sweeny Church of Christ.
Her favorite Bible verse, Matthew 7:7 served as a guiding light throughout her life and stands as a testament to the grace and peace she carried in her heart.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Sue’s honor be made to Sweeny Church of Christ.
We find comfort in knowing that Sue is now resting in the arms of her Savior, reunited with loved ones, and at peace.
