Floyd Scott

June 15, 1945 — October 17, 2020

Brazoria

Floyd Evert Scott, 75, of Brazoria, Texas entered into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, October 17, 2020 surrounded by his family.

Floyd was born June 15, 1945 to Clarence and Lillie Mae Scott of Flat Top, Alabama. He was the Pastor of Brazoria Missionary Baptist Church in Brazoria for over 40 years. He loved to preach the gospel and sang with numerous groups including Called Out but spent the last 20 years as the lead singer for Hearts of Grace. He was bi-vocational so in addition to preaching, he loved working in banking and human resources. He always joked that he either “married them, buried them, hired them or fired them.” He was on the Board of numerous organizations including the 100 Club of Brazoria County. He was on the Brazoria City Council and being frustrated that no one could come up with a name for the local festival announced “It’s late and I’m going home. Let’s call it the No Name Festival and next year the whole city can vote on a new name.” No one ever wanted to change it so the name remains today. In 2015, he founded Grace Wholesale Auto and thoroughly enjoyed meeting people even more than selling cars.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Christine Scott; son, Jerry Scott (JoAnn); daughters, Rhonda Scott (Jason), Tonya Hatfield (Luke), and Megan Ledesma (Brent); brother, Jim Scott; and sisters, Virgie Bates, Hazel Gilliam, Joyce Long and JoAnn Scott. He had 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Scott is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Inez Scott; brother, Robert McAbee, Jr.; and sister, Becky Ricks.

Visitation will be held from 5 pm -7 pm on Thursday, October 22nd at C. T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home in West Columbia. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Friday, October 23rd at the First Baptist Church of Brazoria.
