Frank Burge, Jr.

Frank Hugh Burge, Jr. of Shady Acres passed away on June 19, 2017 in Houston, Texas after a lengthy and courageous battle with multiple myeloma. He was born on June 11, 1943 in Lebanon, Tennessee to Frank Hugh Burge, Sr. and Willa Harsh Smith. He moved to Dallas, Texas as a young boy. He married Linda Carol Allen on March 8, 1963. They were married for 54 years. Frank was very involved in helping his community. He received the Dow Presidential Award for Community Service in 1995; he was recognized as Sweeny's Man of the Year for 2006-2007 and The Facts Unsung Hero Award in 2007. He also served on the Board of Directors for Sweeny United. Frank was a member of First Baptist Church of Shady Acres where he was a deacon and loved driving the bus or van to bring people to church or to other activities.

He is survived by his wife Linda, children Ricky Burge (Carrie) of Pasadena, Michial Burge (Nikky) of Sweeny, and Susan Burge (Karlton Gilcrease) of Huntsville, grandchildren Donna Burge Roberts (Kenny) of Brazoria, Shannon Burge Hernandez (Rafael) of New York City, Troy Burge (Stephanie) of Alvin, Kevin Burge of Houston, and Cody Burge of Sweeny, great grandchildren Anne Nichols, Shane, Chloe, and Sadie Reese, and Elijah Roberts of Brazoria, "adopted" grandchildren Kreig Gilcrease and family of Bedford, Amber White Wetherell and family of Angelton , and Kathia, Jillian, and Delayna Fernandez of Pasadena. He is also survived by brother, George Buhler (Lea) of Greenville, brother-in-laws Mike "Buck" Allen (Linda) of Rendon and Randy Patterson (Leanna) of Scurry, and numerous nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that due to Frank's love of taking children to church donations be made to the transportation fund at First Baptist Church of Shady Acres, PO Box 613, Brazoria, TX 77422.

Pall Bearers will be nephews Jeff, Brian, and Marc Allen, and Payton Patterson, grandsons Troy, Kevin, and Cody Burge, and great-grandson Shane Reese. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Lee and Mike Morgan, Neil Skinner, and Donnie Meismer.

Services will be officiated by Bro. David Pate at First Baptist Church of Shady Acres at 2:00pm, Thursday, June 22, 2017 with visitation being held Wednesday evening at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia from 5:00pm until 8:00pm.
