Sweeny, TX

Gary Eugene Hammond, a dedicated craftsman and true cowboy. He bid farewell to this world on June 23, 2024, in Sweeny, TX. Born in Wharton, TX, on May 22, 1956 to the late Helen L. Davenport Hammond & Calvin Eugene Hammond (RED). Gary led a fulfilling life filled with hard work, being tougher than nails, and a cunning sarcastic family man.

Gary showcased his skills and commitment to excellence over many years with all he did. Known for his exceptional work ethic and precision, he left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of working alongside him. His rugged exterior hid a kind heart and a sharp mind that never shied away from a challenge.

Apart from being a talented professional, Gary was also known for his larger-than-life personality. He was a "Big family Man," deeply devoted to his loved ones and always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed. As a father he was a force to be reckoned with a tough but loving presence who instilled in his children a sense of resilience, independence, and a healthy dose of sarcasm. His warm heart and kind spirit endeared him to all who knew him. He was never one to mince words or sugarcoat the truth, but his tough love was always tempered with unwavering support and loyalty.

In his leisure time, Gary found joy in simple yet meaningful activities such as Team Roping, Hunting, and Fishing, with a fearless spirit and a keen eye for adventure.

To his friends, Gary was a constant source of amusement and entertainment, with a quick wit and a clever retort for every situation. He could always be counted on to lighten the mood, crack a joke, and offer a dose of reality when needed. His sharp tongue and sharp mind will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Gary leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever be held close to the hearts of those who survive him. He is survived by his beloved wife Denise (Blaschke) Hammond; Children: Tracy Smith (John) of Sweeny, TX, Nicholas Hammond (Sarah) of Montgomery, Kenny Hammond (Brittani) of Sweeny, Ja'Nise Jones of Montgomery, TX, James Jones (Hannah) of Santa Fe, TX; sister Cindy Jacobs; brother Russell Hammond (Sandy); nephews Chris Jacobs and Robert Jacobs; along with 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
