George Burke

June 8, 1937 — May 1, 2021

George “Sonnyman” Preston Burke, age 83, of Brazoria passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 1, 2021 with his family by his side.

George was born on June 8, 1937 in Elgin, TX to Waylan Stanley Burke and Nellie Elizabeth Burke (Weaver). He was a veteran who served in the US Army and was a member of The American Legion in Brazoria. He worked for over 28 years as an accountant for Dow Chemical and remained friends with many of his coworkers, often meeting for lunch to keep in touch. He attended FBC Brazoria since the age of 4 and served in many roles including Music Director and Deacon. He truly loved Jesus, shared his faith to all he met, sang in the choir, and supported missions. His heart was for all to know the Jesus he knew - the one that loved, forgave, and showed grace no matter what. He has left a legacy of faith and unconditional love. He will be remembered as a Godly man, a gentle giant, a true foodie, a collector of friends, a giver of the best hugs, a generous heart, a nickname giver, and a man who loved his family and others well.

George is survived by his bride of 58 years, Jacqueline Marie Burke (Boehm); his twin sister, Joyce “Sistergirl” Huffman (Burke); his three children, Tina Davis (husband Clark) of Houston, Sheila Ochsner of Katy, Bill Burke (wife Keri) of Dallas; grandchildren, Elizabeth Davis, Madeline Storey (husband Jake), Abigail Davis, Morgan Ochsner, Kenneth Ochsner, Brooke Ochsner, Preston Burke, Catherine Burke; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
