George Ronald “Ronnie” Goolsby

November 20, 1943

October 13, 2020

Known to everyone who ever knew him as Ronnie, he was born in Freeport, Tx in 1943 to George Albert and Lucille Gameson Goolsby.  Ronnie spent his entire life in Brazoria where he grew up, raised his children, and founded a successful business.  After schooling Ronnie worked in various industry and oil field related jobs before settling in at Amoco Production Company in Old Ocean, Tx in the 1960’s.  At Amoco he spent the next three decades working many jobs there, retiring as a maintenance supervisor in 1994.  Ronnie was well known for his work ethic and capability and was well respected by his peers.

Always seeking a little more work, Ronnie with the help of family and friends started a water well business in the late 1970’s following in the footsteps of his father who drilled wells several decades before.  After retirement from Amoco Ronnie devoted most of his energy into the business and was successful growing the company for the next 30 years.   Everywhere he went he was known as the water well man and was known for fixing wells for the community even on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.  The community knew they could count on Ronnie to keep the water running and he had friends everywhere he went.

In 1972 Ronnie met and married the love of his life, Wilma Dean Hand who remained his faithful wife for the next 48 years.  Ronnie and Wilma had three sons who followed their dad’s and grandfather’s footsteps and became water well men as well.  Ronnie also served his community and was a director of the Brazoria County Groundwater District.  Ronnie loved to watch his Cowboys play football, listen to Elvis, and drive around visiting his children and grandchildren.

Ronnie is survived by and will always be loved and remembered by his family including his wife, Wilma; sons Ryan and children Raegan, William, Emilyn, and Lindsey; Ron Roy and wife Laura and children Toby and Jack; Robby and wife Jennifer and children Sydney and Rylee.  Ronnie is also survived by his brother Richard Goolsby and sister Sissy Shadden and many numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family.

Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents George Albert “Peanut” Goolsby and Lucille Goolsby.
