George Smith

George B. Smith, 72, of West Columbia passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving wife and daughter on March 12, 2017. George was born in Houston to Douglas and Pauline Smith on Nov. 13, 1944.

George served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was a cook on the Navy ships and later loved telling stories about all the meals he cooked for fellow shipmates and captains. He enjoyed fishing with his good friend, Gary Hughes, at Matagorda Bay. He also enjoyed barbequing, playing slot machines and watching westerns & war movies on TV; and he never missed Wheel of Fortune 6 days a week.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest in West Columbia with Kermit Licklider officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rose Ann; daughter, Leslie Smith ; sister in law, Glenda Marshall; nieces, Deborah Young, Lori Marshall & Lisa Spedale & husband, Mark; great nephew, Austin Young; great nieces, Morgan Young, Olivia Spedale, & Elizabeth Spedale. He is preceded in death by his parents; in laws, Glenn & Catherine Yauch; and brother in law, Tommy Marshall.

Rose & Leslie wish to express their extreme gratitude to Dr. Amin at St. Luke's Brazosport Hospital for the caring attention he showed to George and our family. A special thanks to Cheryl Henderson and Kentrele Jones for their wonderful care during his last days.
