George Dorman Tipton, also affectionately known as “Tip,” 81, of West Columbia, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 10:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at his home.
Tip attended Levelland High School and settled in Midland, then Lake Jackson. He and his wife, Sherry, were married on June 1, 1972, and were looking forward to their 50th wedding anniversary this year. He was the father of four sons Cecil, Tommy, Curtis, and Chris. He was predeceased by his parents Spencer and Marie, his son Cecil, and grandson Justin.
Tip and Sherry moved to West Columbia in 1992. Tip was very talented and made beautiful stained glass, knives, and tooled leather items. His other hobbies included fishing, hunting, water skiing, and motorcycle riding with family and friends. He had a great interest in old cars and trucks and collecting guns and knives. He was also the ultimate cowboy. He loved riding his horses, raising cattle, emus, quail, chickens, and peacocks for many years. But Sherry drew the line at hogs.
He retired from Dow Chemical in 1994 with almost 30 years of service. After retiring he did hot shot delivering and volunteered as a mounted patrol at the mall in Lake Jackson.
Tip was saved in 1980 and attended church at First Baptist Church of Clute, and then Wild Peach Baptist Church for 29 years. At Wild Peach, he enjoyed singing in the choir, helping with vacation bible school, and had great fellowship with his sisters and brothers in Christ.
He was well liked and respected by his many friends and neighbors. He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke and make you laugh. He was loved and adored especially by his wife, his children, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and his many nieces and nephews, and by his dog and sidekick, Buddy. He and Buddy could always be found sitting together and he gave lots of love and snacks to Buddy.
We will miss you, Our Tip, but we will see you again in Heaven.
