Gilbert Smedley

G. "Byron" Smedley, 59, of Sweeny, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019. He was born on September 22, 1959 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Carl and Myrna Smedley.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Friday, May 17, 2019 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia with John Price officiating. Burial will follow at Sweeny Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm also at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Bart Sheffield, Jason Sheffield, Jared Sheffield, Chad Ellerbe, Jason King, and Cody Darrell. Honorary pallbearers are employees of Clemen's Terminal Chevron-Phillips and Randy Warren.

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Kathy Smedley; sons, Aaron King and wife, Amanda, Craig King and wife, Cindy, and Scott Smedley; mother, Myrna Farris; brother, Robert Smedley and wife, Barbara; sisters, Janie Dye and husband, Steve, and Christy Serafini and husband, Nick; one grandchild, Fifer Lee King, and many, many friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, C.D. Smedley, mother, Fern Smedley, in laws, Earl & Jean Sheffield and precious granddaughter, Mallory King.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Byron's name to South Texas Children's Home, 9243 FM 2617 Pettus, Texas 78146.
