Grace Elizabeth Baty went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, November 3, 2026.
Grace was born in Forest, Louisiana, to Ernest Sr. and Hazel Williams. In the 9th grade, Grace and her family moved to Sweeny, Texas, where she would spend the remainder of her life. She graduated from Sweeny High School in 1962, where she enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball.
On August 31, 1963, Grace married the love of her life, Elvis Dean Baty. Together, they shared 40 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2004.
Grace worked for Sears Roebuck Co. in Sweeny until the store closed, after which she transferred to the Lake Jackson location. She later began working for Sweeny Community Hospital, where she retired in 2015 after 35 years of dedicated service. Grace cherished the many friendships she made throughout her years of working and was grateful for the people she had the opportunity to work alongside.
Grace loved her family deeply and treasured every moment spent with them. She especially looked forward to her daily Bulldog Cafe runs for a Diet Coke with extra ice and visiting with the ladies there. She enjoyed reading and going to the public library and always looked forward to spending Sundays with her grandchildren, taking them to lunch and spoiling them.
Grace was an amazing cook and was well known for her chicken and dressing, homemade rolls, and green cake. Her cooking, laughter, kindness, and love will forever be remembered by those fortunate enough to share her table and her life.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Sr. and Hazel Williams; her husband, Elvis Dean Baty; her sisters, Ethel Booth and Etta Faye Endsley; and her brothers, Ernest Jr. Williams and Raymond Welch.
She is survived by her loving sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Wendy Baty of Brazoria and Chris and Marla Baty of Sweeny; her grandchildren, Meagan Baty of Angleton, Matthew and Kat Baty of Colorado, and Ainsley Simmons of Brazoria; her sister, Irma Davis of Brazoria; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and her best friend, Jackie Tolbert.
Visitation will be held at C.T. Baker & Sons on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, from 12:00 p.m., with funeral services to follow at 1:00 p.m. Services will be officiated by her nephew, Larry Davis.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Baty, Jason Davis, Shaun Davis, Cameron Davis, Dakota Frankum, and Randy Frankum.
Grace was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She touched the lives of so many people with her kindness, generosity, humor, and unwavering love for her family. She will never be forgotten, and the love she gave so freely to each of us will remain in our hearts forever.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sandra Trevino and Alice Ward, who took amazing care of Grace during her final months. The family would also like to thank Maya at Angels Care Hospice for the kindness, compassion, and dedication shown to Grace and her family. Your care and support meant more to the family than words can express.
