Irene Hatch

Irene Hatch, 97, of West Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at home in the company of her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Roger (Rod) Hatch. Irene is survived by her daughter, Sandra Hatch, and her son, Bruce Hatch and his wife, Susan. In addition she is survived by two grandchildren, Cody Hatch and wife, Michele, and Katie Ewing and husband, Grant. She also had three great-grandsons, Mason, Coen, and Jake.

Rod and Irene moved to West Columbia in 1954 where they bought their family home on Lee Street.

Irene taught school for 27 years and retired in 1984. She was a founding member of St. John Lutheran Church in Angleton.

She enjoyed playing cards with friends, cooking for her family and friends, and sending greeting cards for birthdays and anniversaries. Her long life was blessed with good friends and a loving family. Her dry sense of humor will be missed.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Friday, August 3, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, 2227 N. Downing Rd. in Angleton, with Pete Lopez officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia. Burial will follow at Columbia Cemetery on Jackson St. in West Columbia. Serving as pallbearers will be Cody Hatch, Grant Ewing, Daniel Tindol, Danny Janosky, Scott Booth, Mike Marshall, Jason Bell, and Clifford Russell. Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Lewis and Mike Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene's name to Central Emergency Service, St. John Lutheran Church, or the Christian Senior Citizen Center.
