Jacob Schultz

Jacob Carlton Schultz, better known as Sonny Schultz or Uncle Sonny, passed away July 6, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Mary Schultz and two children Elizabeth Powell and husband, Stacy and John Schultz and wife, Charity. Sonny was born in Palacios, Texas on July 17, 1936 into a family of five, being one of two rowdy boys who longed to seek action and adventure.
After years of working on a boat, shrimping with his father, he decided to join the Navy and board the U.S.S Rupertus. During his time of service, he received the Chinese medal award for extended service, and was very proud to serve his country. After his naval years, Sonny was hired at Dow Chemical where he spent the next 30+ years, in addition to raising a family, building a home, and maintaining a beautiful marriage with his loving wife of 56 years, Mary.
Sonny was a wise man, and his sage like wisdom predates before he became an uncle or grandfather. Larger than a redwood tree with the gentleness of a summer breeze, he was a man who helped his fellow neighbor whenever the chance arose. He found most happiness over drinking a cup of coffee on the front porch or in the barn talking with friends and family about a variety of topics. Sonny will be missed by many, as he was loved and admired for all the good he brought into this world. His memory and love will be forever ingrained into our hearts and souls to carry on with. May we all live as good as an example of a christian life as he has lead.

Jacob is also survived by his sisters, Mary Alice Gormey, Roslie McBride and Bobbie Hawkins; grandchildren, Matthew Powell, Emma Powell, Eric Powell and Jacob Schultz, Holly Schultz and Shelby Schultz. He is also preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Minnie Schultz and brother, Gene Schultz.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Shady Acres with Bro. B. F. Flowers and Pastor David Pate officiating. Burial will follow at Brazoria Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening July 10, 2017at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.

Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Powell, Eric Powell, Jacob Schultz, Eric Hawkins, George Gormey and Keith Schultz with honorary pallbearers being Carlton McBride, Michael McBride, Robert Cook, Richard Schultz and Charles Hawkins.
