James Robert Boyd

James Robert Boyd Jr. of West Columbia, Texas, passed away at his home on July 16^th, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on March 8^th, 1945, in Bay City, Texas to Doug and Eula V Boyd.

He grew up in Sweeny, Texas. After graduating from Sweeny High School in 1963, James Robert attended Wharton County Junior College and Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. He joined and served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968 where he earned his Honorable Discharge, he then became a member of IBEW Local Union #716 and worked as an electrician for over thirty-five years. In 1970, he married Rilla Williams and in 1972 they welcomed his “most favorite girl”, Debbie. Following this, James and Rilla remained married for 53 years. Along with immediate family, he leaves many cousins, friends, and “hunting buddies”.

J.R. treasured his time, serving the lord and working in the youth department of the First Baptist Church, West Columbia. He loved to sing, hunt and spend time outdoors, and when Debbie was old enough, he helped coach her softball team. Upon his retirement, he began to make knives where he spent many hours crafting his skill. Not only was James a wonderful husband and father, but he also loved people and most of all he loved the Lord.

Relatives and friends are invited to James Robert’s viewing on Saturday July 22^nd from 9:30 – 10:30 at First Baptist Church of West Columbia, 226 N. Broad St.  Funeral service to begin at 10:30 am with Dr. Ryan Lintelman officiating.  Interment to follow at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest Cemetery, West Columbia.

In Lieu of flowers, the family request donations in James Robert’s memory be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or The Gathering Place c/o 200 E. Mulberry St Angleton, TX 77515.

J.R. was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ronny.
