James M. Childers, II, affectionately known as "Chilli," passed away on September 29, 2025, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 83. Born on September 2, 1942, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Myrtle Ruth (Tollison) and James Millard Childers, Chilli dedicated his life to hard work and family, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him.

Throughout his career, Chilli spent his working years as a welder, a testament to his skilled craftsmanship and strong work ethic. He was admired for his dedication to his profession and remained steadfast in his pursuits, fostering a reputation as a hard worker and a reliable individual.

Chilli proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned his Honorable Discharge. His service exemplified his commitment to his nation and highlighted a sense of duty that extended into all facets of his life.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Chilli was deeply passionate about his hobbies and interests. He found joy in woodworking and motorcycles, enjoying the creativity and freedom these pursuits brought him. Additionally, Chilli had a profound love for dancing, a passion he eagerly shared with his children. He created cherished memories with them at a particular dance hall, instilling in them the joy of movement and rhythm.

Chilli is survived by his beloved children: Jimmy Childers of Iowa, Louisiana; Taresa Navarro of Sweeny, Texas; Tammy NeSmith, sin in law John of Sweeny, Texas; Maggie Wilson of Sweeny, Texas; and Amanda Smith and her husband Kevin of Loveland, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind a legacy through his grandchildren, Tyler Ward, Dustin Walker, Addyson Wilson, Danielle Bales, Kolton Holley and John T. NeSmith, along with 4 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his immediate family, Chilli is survived by his siblings: Steven Childers and his wife Denise, Martha Hunt and her husband Ray, Fannie Childers, Richard Childers, and Michelle Pitts.

Chilli will be remembered not only for his contributions as a skilled professional but also for the warmth he brought into the lives of those around him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends who carry forward his legacy of hard work, love, and the joy of dancing.

A Celebration of Life will be held November 22, 2025 at Le Tulle Park in Bay City, Tx in the Pavillion starting at 1pm and ending at 4pm.
