James Roger “Jim” Hensley, age 80, of Sweeny, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on December 8, 2025, surrounded by his devoted wife of 60 years, Linda. A man of deep faith, steady service, and genuine kindness, Jim lived his life guided by compassion, integrity, and a heart for others.
Born on January 24, 1945, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, he was the son of the late Willie Homer and Lucile (Fry) Hensley. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Fry Hensley.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam from 1968–1969, earning the Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. He served as a 67H20 Fixed-Wing Aircraft Mechanic achieving the rank of SP5 (T) E5.

Jim’s faith was central to his life. As a deacon at First Baptist Church Sweeny, he invested deeply in the youth of the church. Whether playing dodgeball, sharing stories, or leading prayer groups, he made every young person feel seen and valued. He knew them all by name, and they knew him as someone who cared.

Tuesdays were reserved for the “Table of Knowledge” at the Sweeny Bulldog Café, where he enjoyed fellowship, conversation, and laughter with friends.
He loved hunting and fishing with his sons and their families, creating memories from Lake Somerville, TX, to Missouri, Colorado, and Canada. As his travels slowed, he gave even more of himself to his community, finding purpose in service.
