James Edwards Jones, Sr. 79, of West Columbia passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021 surrounded by family at his residence. James was born on February 2, 1942 to the late Lucille Elizabeth (Tabor) Jones and Charles Edward Jones. James was preceded in death by his parents and sister Glenda Darlene.
James graduated from Eunice High School, New Mexico. After graduation, James went into the United States Air Force. After his service time he went to work for Phillips 66 in Orla, Texas, Gillette Wyoming and finally to Old Ocean Texas and retired from Phillips and went to work for Chevron Phillips, a total of 48yrs. James was a member of the American Legion of Brazoria Tx.
James like to travel all over the United States on his touring motorcycle. He also loved to take his family on vacations visiting many of the nation’s parks and monuments. James really enjoyed snorkeling at the Frio river. He looked forward to that time of year. He enjoyed having the family over to enjoy his BBQing skills and karaoke to his favorite old-time country singers. James was an avid video game enthusiast and lived life to the fullest until he was hit by a car 5 years ago, which slowed him down a bit. He was a jokester to the very end. The highlight of his week was his Sunday school class and worshipping the Lord through Pastor Greg’s sermon’s. He enjoyed playing a Sheppard in the Passion Play. He will be missed!
James is survived by his wife Doreene, his children: Yvonne Darrell-(BB), Darlene Tipps-(Brian), James Jones JR., Nicole Stell-(Daniel) and his grandchildren; Robert Darrell, Heather Mendez-(Joe), Justin Harris-(Sarah), Jeremy Hamilton, Jason Hamilton-(April), Kyli Jones, Daygn Jackson and Great grand babies: Renee Mendez, JW Harris, Joey Mendez, Fal’lynn Anderson, Abigail Anderson, Jackson Hamilton and Savannah Harris. Also surviving James is his sister Sandra Jones and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation with friends and loved ones will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2021 at C.T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Brazoria, 101 San Bernard St., with Pastor Greg Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Sweeny Cemetery with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the mission fund at First Baptist Church Brazoria.
