James "Tubby" Meador

May 2, 1944 — March 6, 2022

James Orville "Tubby" Meador, age 77, of Sweeny, Texas, entered his Heavenly Home on Sunday March 6, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

Tubby was born on May 2, 1944, in Bay City, Texas, to Troy and Mary  Meador.

Tubby attended Sweeny Schools and graduated with the Class of 1962.

After High School he attended Blinn Jr. College and it was there that he met and fell in love with Gloria. While in high school and Blinn College he excelled in all sports, especially football and was awarded several distinguished awards. After leaving Blinn he attended Sam Houston State University and graduated in 1966, and it was on September 12, 1965, that he and Gloria were married.

Just a few weeks after graduating from Sam Houston Tubby was drafted into the Army and the next two years were spent at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. where he served in the radio division. While in New Jersey they welcomed their first son, Michael.

Returning to Sweeny after the service, Tubby worked construction for a little while and then went to work for Amoco and worked there for 17 years. During that period their second son, Tim, was welcomed into their home. After leaving Amoco Tubby went to work for Phillips and retired from there in 2007.

Tubby loved the Lord and did not hesitate in telling everybody about his faith and what God had done for him. He attended Old Ocean Baptist church/later known as New Shores Baptist Church for many years and later transferred his membership to First Baptist Church of Brazoria.

Tubby was very active in his church and served many years as a Deacon at Old Ocean/New Shores and served on many committees. Tubby was often called "Donald Duck" because he loved to talk Duck language to all the kids making them laugh. During his membership at First Baptist Church, of Brazoria, although he couldn't be active because of his cancer, he was given the honor of becoming a Deacon Emeritus, an honor he really cherished.

During his life, Tubby enjoyed doing carpenter work, including building his own home. He did a little remodeling on the side. He could just about do anything he set his mind to doing.

Tubby loved all outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping with friends. He loved reliving his high school years with his friends when they got together for birthdays and playing games. He loved being involved with any sports that his boys were involved in.

Tubby is survived by his loving wife, Gloria, of 56 years; his son Tim and  wife Tricia of Sweeny; grandsons, Cullen, Luke, and Travis.
