Obituary for Jerry Masters

Jerry Masters was born May 18, 1950 to Lonnie and Helen Masters in Rotan, Texas. He passed away from natural causes on January 23, 2026 at the age of 75. He had lived in the Brazosport area all of his life calling Freeport his home.

In his younger days, he had an affinity for fast cars. He used to have a 1969 Road Runner that was his pride and joy. He thought that if he drove it fast enough, it would sprout wings and fly. He attempted that feat many times but always managed to stay earth bound. He picked up many a young lady at the beach in that car because they thought he was cool. But I was his kid sister and knew better. He was just my big brother that hogged the only bathroom in the house. Nothing cool about it.

He worked as a pipe fitter for Dow for many years and was active in city politics at one time. As his sister, I'll miss the old devil as will his son, Robbie Masters. Jerry Dan was a quirky fella and him and I could solve the world's problems if only we were in charge and Rachel Maddow was in our group. She was his hero. He loved watching reruns of Two and a Half Men and said he could identify with Charlie. He could quote the words Charlie was going to say even before he said them. He also enjoyed the old black and white TV shows and smoking his cigars. He lost his daughter, Julie Chapman last summer to cancer. He lived alone and liked it that way. I always called him a grumpy old man...well...because he was. But he anonymously donated sizeable amounts to Saint Judes, Texas Children’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital and other charities each year. He was very generous. He would also help out people that were struggling in their life like the single mom of 2 working at the Dollar Store. There were others he helped along the way. But he didn’t tell anyone for fear it might ruin his reputation of being a grinch.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jeanne Masters, daughter Julie Masters Chapman, and brother Ted Masters. Those surviving him are his son Robert (Robbie) Masters, sister Becky Masters Sirmans (Jerry), the mother of his children, Beth Swint along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. There will be no funeral service. A memorial service will be held at a later date for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to one of the charities listed above.

“Don’t be sad for me. We all come to this world to be tourists, enjoy life, go sightseeing and do good deeds. What a great time I had.”
