Jerry Ray Geddie

November 26, 1956 — August 13, 2024

West Columbia, Texas

Jerry Ray Geddie went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 13, 2024 at a Houston hospital. He was born on November 26, 1956, in Tyler, TX to the late Margaret (Myrick) Geddie and Archie Geddie.

With a master’s degree in education, Jerry devoted 22 years of his life to teaching within the Brazoria Independent School District (BISD). His passion for education and commitment to his students exemplified his belief in the importance of learning and personal growth. Jerry's students remember him not only for his knowledge but also for his caring nature and ability to inspire others. Before he was a teacher, he was also the assistant football coach, soccer coach and the boy’s dorm director

In addition to his teaching career, Jerry was a man of many accomplishments. A notable highlight of his youth was becoming the state weightlifting champion at the age of 17, an achievement that reflected his dedication and hard work. Throughout his life, he took great pride in his involvement with the First Baptist Church of Brazoria, where he was an enthusiastic participant in his Men's Sunday School group. This connection to his faith and community was something he cherished deeply.

Jerry had a zest for life that extended beyond his professional and spiritual pursuits. He had a particular fondness for western movies, often quick to tune in whenever a John Wayne classic was on screen. Jerry also passionately supported his favorite sports teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros, consistently sharing his enthusiasm for their games with friends and family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Melanie (Powell) Geddie; his daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Geddie of San Antonio, Texas; and his brother, Monty Geddie, along with his wife Judy, of Tyler, Texas. His family will remember him not only for his accomplishments but also for his kindness, humor, and the love he generously shared.

Visitation will be held on August 23, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Brazoria, located at 101 San Bernard St, Brazoria, TX, 77422. The interment will take place on August 25, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Pine Springs Cemetery, situated at 2155 County Rd 334, Tyler, TX, 75708.
