Joan Frankum

Joan Bownds Frankum, 84, of Brazoria, TX passed away peacefully on Friday, January 29, 2021, at her home.  Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Roy Bownds, and her sister, Edith Lorene Bownds.

Joan was born on Friday, October 23, 1936 in Houston, TX.

Living the life of a pastor’s daughter, Joan moved throughout Texas several times during her childhood to places such as Luling, TX, Yoakum, TX, McAllen, TX, and Galena Park, TX just to name a few.

In 1954, while Joan was attending her senior year of high school in Waxahachie, TX at Southwestern Bible School (now known as Southwestern Assemblies of God University) her parents moved to Brazoria, TX to pastor the First Assembly of God church (now known as Brazoria First Assembly of God). After Joan graduated and came home to live in Brazoria with her family she went to work at Brazoria Telephone Company and during this time she met her lifelong love Edward Frankum.

On Friday, June 7,1957, Joan and Edward were married and remained married and in love for the next 63 years. During their life, they created together they had 4 children, and 7 grandchildren.

Joan loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed being a part of their lives.  She loved to travel, sew, read, can fruits and vegetables, and play the piano. She was a superb homemaker and was an active member of Brazoria Assembly of God church where she taught Sunday school, and played the piano through the years.

Life was not always easy, but with a love for Christ and each other they made a good life. We will miss her so much!

Joan is survived by her husband of 63 years, Edward Frankum; son, Edward Lee Frankum Jr. and wife, Karen; daughter’s Donna Frankum, and  Kerry Finley and husband Eddie; and Nancie Irwin and husband, Gary; seven grandchildren Edward Lee Frankum III (Pete), Karley Frankum, Jake Finley, Gretchen Finley, Ethan Irwin, Garrett Irwin, and Esther Irwin.

A visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at C.T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home in West Columbia, TX. from 5pm to 7pm. Funeral services will be held at Brazoria Assembly of God church on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Burial at Brazoria Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Pete Frankum, Jake Finley, Ethan Irwin, Garrett Irwin, Gary Irwin and Eddie Finley.
