Johanna Mansfield

October 9, 1967 — January 8, 2022

Sweeny, Texas

Johanna Lynn Mansfield, 54, of Sweeny, Texas went to be with The Lord on Saturday, January 8, 2022. Johanna was born in Akron, Ohio on October 9, 1967 to mother, Marianne Hill and father, Clayton Samels. Johanna attended Sweeny High School, graduating in the class of 1986. She then married her husband, Ben, on October 25th of that year. In 1987, Johanna and Ben moved to Fort Carson, Colorado, where she attended Pikes Peak Community College and studied computer programming.

Johanna held many careers in her life, including those in banking and finance. One of the most remarkable careers that Johanna held, however, was wife and mother. As an army wife, Johanna was not only steadfast in her support of Ben’s 21-year military career, but also served as a support system for other army wives and young soldiers. She ensured that those around her were always taken care of, a quality of Johanna that all who crossed her path can attest to.

As a mother, Johanna was ever-present. You could always find her cheering on the sidelines at each soccer game, cheer event or track meet and gleaming in the audience at band concerts. She was abundantly proud of her children Daniel and Samantha, never missing a chance to celebrate their accomplishments. Johanna cherished time surrounded by her family and loved ones, always displaying a beautiful smile and contagious laughter in their company.

Johanna is survived by her husband, Benjamin Mansfield; son, Daniel Mansfield; daughter, Samantha Mansfield; mother, Marianne Hill; father, Clayton Samels; sisters, Judy Barnett and Jennifer Le Blanc; brothers, Geoff Samels, James Hill, and Ronnie Hill.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2022, at C.T. Baker & Sons Funeral in West Columbia.

The Life Tribute Celebration Service for Johanna will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2022, at First Baptist Church Sweeny, 402 N. Main St., Sweeny, Texas with Pastor Warren Rayburn officiating. Interment will follow in Sweeny Cemetery.
