Johnny (JR) Johnson, Sr was born on August 11, 1946, in Lufkin Tx to Thomas Jefferson Johnson and Dorotha (Hambrick) and passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021, in Houston, Texas.

Johnny, who was known by most as JR, and was employed with Dow Chemical for 31 years where he retired in 2003. He was an active member of The Brazoria County Trail Ride Association and was the Trail Boss for many years. He made people laugh all the time, most of the time with no intent to do so. He was without a doubt one of a kind, the life of the party. He was JR Johnson, a man who you were proud to have known. He loved hunting, fishing and being with his family and friends.

He was welcomed into heaven by his parents, mother-in-law Ruby Batts, his son Johnny Johnson, Jr., brother Jimmy Johnson and brothers-in-law Harold Rakestraw and Kenny Batts.

He is survived by his loving wife Pam Johnson; his brother David (Retha) Johnson; brother-in-law Paul (Karen) Batts, sister Madelyn Rakestraw; daughters Paula (Tem) Perry and Melissa (Mike) Schulz;

7 grandchildren TJ Baranowski, Lynse Baranowski, Lauren (Tyler) Lara, Hannah (Justin) Hussey, Hayden Johnson, Jake Johnson, Mikaela Schulz; 10 great grandchildren Jaidyn, Marissa, Trinity, Isabella, John and Madi Baranowski, Kaidynce and Jaxston Radford, Raleigh Edwards and Jasey Hussey and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Johnny was loved and will be missed by many. He was indeed a true friend.

A visitation with friends and loved ones will be on Thursday, September 2, 2021, from 5-7pm at C. T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home in West Columbia, Texas. and services will be Friday, September 3, 2021, beginning at 10am at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021, at 10:00 am in the Chapel of C.T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Jamie Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest Cemetery in West Columbia.

Pallbearers will include, Randy Shaddock, Johnny Ralph Johnson, Larry Castalow, Warren Sbrusch, Chip Horak, Dale Horak, Steve Shiflet and Martin Lopez. Honorary Pallbearers include Gary Nunnelly and Doak Hall.

JR’s family is asking that everyone in attendance to please wear a face mask.
