Josefa Gupton

Josefa “Josie” Gupton (78), of Sweeny, Texas, beloved mother, and grandmother, was called to her eternal resting place on December 17, 2021. Josefa was born on March 21, 1943, in Laredo, Texas to Modesto and Maria Valdez.

Josefa was a retired educator but so much more could be learned from her life outside of the classroom. She loved her family and friends deeply and served as caretaker for so many loved ones. Josefa’s laugh was contagious and full of joy. She was incredibly devoted to her faith and committed to her church throughout her life. Josefa could often be found bird watching, tending to her flower gardens and backyard, and baking or cooking for family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and her loving husband, Phillip Ray Gupton.

Josefa is survived by her sons, John R. Gupton (Sally) and Michael R. Gupton (Traci), and seven grandchildren: Brady, Ashley, Katlyn (Andrew), Jathan, Sarah, Phillip, and Jackson.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at C.T. Baker and & Sons Funeral Home, West Columbia, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 310 N. McKinney St., Sweeny, Tx., with Father Preston Quintela officiating. Interment will follow in Sweeny Cemetery with a reception to follow at the church.

Pallbearers will be John Gupton, Michael Gupton, Andrew Britton, Phillip Gupton, Jackson Gupton, Modesto Guevara, Steve Weems, and honorary pallbearer Jathan Gupton.
