Joseph (Joe) Goens

Joseph (Joe) Henry Goens passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2021.  Joe was a caring husband, a fun dad, a loyal friend, avid fisherman, and an excellent country western dancer.

Joe was born to Daphne Stone and Walter Goens in Little Creek, Louisiana on January 11, 1932.  Joe grew up in Louisiana surrounded by a large extended family with many cousins.  He joined the Navy shortly after football season of his high school senior year on January 17, 1951.  He served in the Korean Conflict as a machinist mate until he left service on November 17, 1954.

Shortly after leaving service, Joe married his wife Flo and they had three children – Joe, Ramona and Kathleen.  Joe and Flo were married for 34 years until she passed away. They had a fun marriage and loved dancing and playing pool.  Joe worked for Dow Chemical and retired after 30 years of service.  Joe enjoyed having a cold beer and visiting with family and friends.

Joe is survived by his son Joe Goens (wife Joanne), daughters Ramona Biehl and Kathleen O’Connell, grandsons Jody Goens (wife Katie) and Joshua Staley, granddaughters Jennifer Herbst (husband Neil), Stephanie Hunter (husband Jacob), Brynn O’Connell, Patti Shaw (husband Danny), and Shannon Beck and great-grandchildren Joseph Goens, Sawyer Goens, Hayden Hunter, Presley Barrett, Trey Herbst, McGwire Herbst (wife Cherish), Jordan Herbst, Amelia Shaw, McCoy Shaw and A’mylie Beck.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon prior to the services.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Friday, March 12, 2021 at C.T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home, 634 S. Columbia Drive, West Columbia, Texas.

Interment will follow in Gulf Prairie Cemetery in Jones Creek, Texas.
